A generation of mullets, brightly coloured aerobics / fitness wear… yes I am being stereotypical, however what is it about this era that fascinates everyone?
For many this was the era of voguish shoulderpads, voluminous hairstyles and smouldering stares, all heralding a daring new streak of ostentation.
For the fans, it was a gift of dress-up glamour that brought escape from the humdrum. Embracing the rapid rise of a new electronic era, opening a new chapter into music.
And of course, a lot of today’s music is ‘eighties-inspired’ as you can hear the synthetic beat applied to a lot of the current releases in the charts.
I used to manage ‘Back to the 80’s’ Brighton’s biggest Eighties event every Tuesday night in Brighton from 2011 – 2013 and this drew in crowds of people that lived in the era as well as students wanted to step into the nostalgic past and imagine what it was like.
Well the good news, is the Eighties will be returning to The Talbot Inn, Cuckfield on Friday 13th July 2018.
Tickets are £10 with prizes up for grabs for the most ‘Outrageous’ fancy dress. These can be purchased from the bar, by email: email@example.com or by calling: 01444 455 898
I look forward to seeing you then for another great night. Don’t forget you can follow our specialist ‘Back to the 80’s’ Facebook page for details on more events like this coming soon: https://www.facebook.com/80sNightBrighton/
What was your fondest 80’s moment? We would love to hear about it…
What on earth has chocolate got to do with Easter?
This has always baffled me and I am sure it has you, however the traditional (or religious) meaning behind Easter is behind the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
So what has Chocolate eggs got to do with it? Originally was not allowed by the church during the week leading up to Easter (known as Holy Week).
Any eggs that were ‘laid’ that week were then decorated and presented to children as gifts.
Throughout time this evolved, with the Victorians adapting the tradition to decorate ‘satin-filled’ cardboard eggs with Easter gifts. It wasn’t until the 19th Century that both France & Germany began to introduce the first chocolate eggs.
As the majority of us are ‘sweet-toothed’, this is where the popularity rose to the tradition of providing Chocolate eggs once a year (or more in other peoples cases).
My two girls are getting very excited about Easter; especially my youngest who is a chocoholic.
Easter is a great time to celebrate as well, given the Bank Holiday it falls on so we tend to with an ‘Easter-themed’ event every year!
Unsure of what your plans are for Easter?
Why not pop down to Orange Square Bar in Haywards Heath for the annual Easter Eggstravaganza on Sunday 1st April 2018: https://www.facebook.com/events/211726296045685/?active_tab=about
It’s Free Entry all night and all the fun begins from 8PM onwards.
I hope you’re well and enjoyed the festive break. We celebrated some great news that the latest edition to the Empire is going to be a boy… so feeling just a little bit less outnumbered now; although the numbers are still against me!
January has been exceptionally busy for me, in what would normally be a quieter time of year.
The first Saturday of 2018 I saw in at Orange Square Bar in Haywards Heath as a few simultaneous birthday parties were in celebration throughout the evening and wow, what an amazing night that was!
It was great to be back at the Bent Arms, Lindfield on Friday night just been as we celebrated Lorraine’s 60th birthday and also her Pearl Wedding anniversary, a great night had by all!
And Saturday just been a joint 30th for both Ricky and Tom at the Mid Sussex Golf Club in Ditchling. Not only was it fancy dress party, however everyone was up dancing all night long.
So where am I this weekend? I return to Bognor Regis at the QE2 (appropriately named after Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II) on Saturday 20th January 2018 for Saturday Night Sessions – a mixture of Commerical Dance, House, RnB and Pop music to get your party started:
Although a while off yet, I thought I would also share a great night coming soon to all you Eighties lovers… especially those who remember the night ‘Back to the 80’s’ I used to host at Belushi’s in Brighton:
The 80’s night will be held at Cuckfield Golf Club, in Cuckfield on Friday 13th April 2018 with tickets being sold for £20 per person. This will include a finger buffet and all the great music from this era.
I hope to see you out at either night or hopefully at a venue near you very soon.
A time for giving, caring and understanding and where everyone should get together and reflect on the year that has just passed and look forward to the year to come.
I’ve provided entertainment for some good Christmas Parties this year; the Accident & Emergency department at the Princess Royal Hospital and Marsh Insurance in Haywards Heath to name a couple!
This is not just joyous due to the sheer amount of work I’ve had on this period, we have to also remember those who may have fallen on hard times and may have little or nothing to their name. I am very fortunate to have your support as always and couldn’t of done it without you, so thank you again for letting me entertain you for another year.
I hope you can join me tonight for the annual festivities tonight at Orange Square Bar in Haywards Heath, as I will be bringing a sprinkling of snow with me as well. Not real snow, but my snow machine I know… but it’s the magic that counts! 🙂
I will also be back for the New Year countdown to 2018 at Orange Square, so hope to see you at either night. For more details on either event, see below:

Finally this is a time to spend with your family and I for one am very looking forward to it this year. With baby number 3 on the way, we have expanded our empire and look forward to more fun over the years – especially seeing the enjoyment from the children’s faces.
If I don’t hear from you before, I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and look forward to seeing you in 2018!
