Over £600 raised at the Mencap Christmas Fair
This past Saturday, the Mencap Newhaven, Lewes & District hosted a highly successful Christmas Fair at Riverside Hall in Newhaven which saw over £600 raised for their charity. Despite the dreary weather outside, the event was a festive highlight for the local community, attracting a steady stream of visitors throughout the day.
The Christmas Fair brought together a wonderful mix of local businesses, crafters, and food vendors, offering something for everyone. Among the many stalls were Crafty Creations, featuring handmade gifts and decorations, as well as a variety of food and cake stands that delighted attendees with their seasonal treats. The club also held a raffle, with the highlight being the Grand Prize Draw, the winner of which was announced later in the day.
A particularly popular attraction was the Grotto of Father Christmas, where children and families had the opportunity to meet the jolly man himself. Contrary to the rumours circulating online, we can confidently confirm that A.C. Knell, a beloved member of the club committee, was not the man behind the red suit and snowy white beard. Nonetheless, Father Christmas proved to be a very popular, with plenty of visitors braving the chilly, wet weather to enjoy the magic of the occasion and take part in the festive fun.
The event’s success is a testament to the strong sense of community that the Mencap Newhaven, Lewes & District brings, and the generosity of both local businesses and attendees. With over £600 raised, the funds will go a long way in supporting the club’s ongoing work to provide great facilities for it’s members as they provide for individuals with learning disabilities.
