Understanding DBS Checks and Their Importance for DJs

A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is a crucial process in the UK that involves searching an individual’s criminal record to ensure they are suitable for working with vulnerable groups, including children and vulnerable adults. The DBS check is a vital measure to promote safety and trust, particularly in industries where professionals frequently interact with these groups.

As a DJ I work with many vulnerable adults in my volunteer role at Mencap Newhaven & Lewes District, as well as hosting children’s parties and DJ tutoring, so it is imperative as a DJ & Entertainer to tick all the boxes from this point of view.

Whatever the capacity, if paid or volunteer work this is to ensure the safety of children or vulnerable people within your care or around you.

What is a DBS Check?

The DBS check involves a thorough examination of an individual’s criminal history, revealing any convictions, cautions, reprimands, or warnings they may have received. My DBS certificate can be supplied on request.

Why is a DBS Check Important for DJs?

For DJs, especially those working in environments like schools, youth clubs, or events where children are present, having a DBS check is not just beneficial—it’s essential. It reassures clients and venues that the DJ is trustworthy and safe to work around vulnerable groups. A clear DBS check can often be a requirement for securing gigs in certain settings, enhancing the DJ’s credibility and expanding their potential job opportunities.

How We Have This Covered

As a professional DJ who takes safety and responsibility seriously I understand the importance of being trustworthy and reliable.

Each year I go through a thorough DBS check ensuring complete peace of mind for my clients. Whether performing at a children’s party, a school event, or any venue where safety is paramount, a DBS check means that clients can book with confidence, knowing that all appropriate safeguarding measures are in place.

Having this covered not only shows my commitment to professionalism but also opens doors to more diverse opportunities, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all.

As a father of 3 young children I certainly see the importance of whom you’re working with and this also gives me that added confidence that the individual is sound whenever I have booked events or entertainment in a personal capacity for my children over the years.
